subject categories.

To REMOVE your ad or bulletin, type....................POST PU
For a detailed explanation of the POST service and commands, enter POST

like instructions?
Explanations of individual commands also are available by typing HELP POST
followed by any of the commands listed below:
READ SCAN PURGE KEYWORD DATE USER
STRINGING CATEGORIES POST SELECT
COMMANDS MORE NARROW
Whether you're buying or selling, seeking information or have some
to offer, the POST database puts your message online in a few easy
steps.
At the first prompt, "Read, Post, Purge, Scan, or HELP:"
Enter the command READ to read posted notices
Enter the command POST to post your notice
Enter the command PURGE to delete a notice you posted
Enter the command SCAN to scan notices you may want to read
You may see detailed instructions on any one of these commands without
reading all the instructions by typing HELP and the command name (Ex:
HELP READ), at any prompt.
STC reserves the right to remove any POSTed material which is
irrelevant to a category, abusive, unlawful, or otherwise objectionable.
POSTING YOUR NOTICE
-------------------
STEP 1: SELECT A CATEGORY....Enter the command POST at the first prompt
and you will be asked to specify the category in which your
message should be placed.
STEP 2: ASSIGN KEYWORDS.....Once the category is specified, you will be
prompted to assign keywords that best describe your message.
Use simple and direct keywords, for other users will be select-
ing POST notices based on the descriptive keywords assigned.
(EX: APPLE HARDWARE DISCS)
Keyword lines must not exceed 32 characters.
STEP 3: ENTER YOUR MESSAGE.....You will be able to enter your message
once the keywords are assigned. Do not exceed 80 characters per
line, or your message will be truncated. Also, please limit the
length of each notice to 23 lines. When you are done, type .S
at the beginning of a new line to SEND your notice to the proper
POST category. It should be posted within a few minutes.
READING NOTICES
---------------
STEP 1: BEGIN YOUR SEARCH.........Enter the command READ at the first
prompt. You will be asked to specify how you want to call up
entries. You can select by <C>ategory, <U>ser ID, <D>ate, or
<K>eyword.
Select CATEGORY to see notices in any category you select.
Select USER ID to see notices posted by any user you specify.
Select DATE to see notices posted on the day or range of dates
you specify. The best form for entering dates is: 16 JAN 1982.
Enter date ranges like this: 16 JAN 1982,19 MAR 1982.
Select KEYWORD to see all the notices that contain the keyword
you select.
NOTE: After selecting any of the search attributes listed above, you
can enter just the first few letters of your search word to
keep your selection as large as possible.
EX: After selecting USER ID, entering the first part of an ID
number, STC for instance, will narrow your selection to the
notices posted by users whose account numbers begin with
STC.
Similarly, after selecting CATEGORY, entering A will narrow
your selection of valid entries to notices posted in
categories that begin with the letter A.
STEP 2: NARROWING AND EXPANDING YOUR SEARCH....Once you've made your
selection, the number of notices available for reading will
appear, and you will be able to further narrow or broaden your
selection by <C>ategory, <U>ser ID, <D>ate, or <K>eyword.
At the prompt "<N>arrow or <E>xpand your Selection or Press
Return to See All Valid Entries" enter N or E depending on what
you want to do, and the <C>ategory, <U>ser ID, <D>ate, or
<K>eyword:" prompt will appear again. There is no need to re-
enter anything you've already entered. If you are <E>xpanding,
your new entry will ADD all the notices that match it to the
number of already valid entries. If you are <N>arrowing, your
entry will call up only the entries that contain all the char-
acteristics you've specified.
SCANNING NOTICES
----------------
The SCAN command allows you to determine which entries interest you
without reading through every notice. Once you finish narrowing or ex-
panding your search, the pertinent information found in each notice
(User ID, Date, and Keywords) will appear, one notice per line, in list
form. You can scan this information and READ any of the entries by
selecting them from the list.
PURGING NOTICES
---------------
A notice may be purged only by the individual who posted it or by STC.
All notices are automatically purged by STC after one week. To delete
your notice prior to that time, enter the command PURGE at the first
prompt. The narrowing process that will help you find the notice you
want deleted is identical to the process used for scanning and reading.
When you locate the notice you want purged, just enter D at the prompt
and it will be removed from POST.
COMMAND STRINGING
-----------------
You can use command stringing to bypass many of the prompts in POST by
entering your commands as you would if you were answering each prompt.
For example, (at command level) you can enter POST SCAN DATING to scan
the notices in the DATING category.
If you want to search on anything other than a category, your command
string must specify the search attribute you want to use. For example,
your command string (at command level) might look like this: POST READ
KEYWORD HARDWARE, or POST SCAN USER TCX115.
You may use command stringing at any prompt. Just begin your string with
the response requested at the prompt you are at, and follow it with what
your response would be at the next prompt if it were to appear. Obvious-
ly, you should be familiar with this database before attempting this
shortcut.
NAVIGATIONAL COMMANDS
---------------------
This database is equipped to accept many commands at -MORE- and -END-
prompts. Enter HELP at -MORE- or -END- for a complete list of accepted
responses and an explanation of each one. NOTE: Accepted commands will
vary, depending where you are in POST.
The following commands will be accepted at any prompt:
HELP..........In addition to the information described above, HELP will
give you detailed instruction tailored to where you are
in the database.
QUIT..........To go to Command Level.
BREAK.........To return to the first prompt, "Post, Read, Scan, Purge,
or HELP:".
----------------------------------------------------------------------
<C>ategory....to read notices from only
one of the 70 categories
available, like DATING,
COLLECTABLES, etc.
<U>ser ID.....to read notices posted by
the user you specify.
<D>ate........to read notices posted during
a specified time period.
<K>eyword.....to read notices containing the
descriptive keyword you select.
Enter only the first part of the Category
name, Keyword or User ID to keep your
selection broad. EX: After selecting
CATEGORY, entering A will search all
categories beginning with A.
You may also enter <P> to return to the
previous prompt and begin a new search.
You may narrow your selection by:
<C>ategory,<U>ser ID,<D>ate,<K>eyword:
